Kaspersky Labs just unveiled its latest "Hybrid Protection" PC security suite, Kaspersky Internet Security 2012. The company's new protective software focuses on protecting users in real time via "the cloud" along with local computer protection.

Kaspersky has had a big year, recognized as the 32nd most innovative company in the world by Fast Company in 2011. Kaspersky was the only software security company to receive this honor.

The company boasts hybrid programs that have been built from the ground up by Kaspersky engineers that are touted as both necessary and, while it's at it, "the most effective way to protect your computer today and going forward."

A trio of new functions are featured in 2012, namely File Adviser, URL Adviser and System Watch with Rollback. Returning security features have been polished.

The File Adviser allows users to right click on any file and determine its threat level. It also provides database results, showing how many users use the particular file and the regions in which they reside.

URL Adviser provides real time updated information on links in email, webpages and search engine results to determine if any give link presents a threat.

System Watch with Rollback monitors a system registry and system files for suspicious activity and identifies potential breaches in security. If a threat is present, rolling back to the pre-malware state is an option in most cases - not unlike Windows' innate System Restore function, but one with a specific target time.

Kaspersky explained that it been working on this new project for the last 18 months, starting with customer focus groups and surveys to determine what their customers wanted to make their software more friendly and intuitive. As a result, Kaspersky claims it has simplified and polished the user interface in an effort to combine simplicity with safety.

The improved desktop gadget gives users a solid overview (and peace of mind) from the system tray on a Windows PC. The gadget also serves as a reminder to customers to be mindful of where they click online.

An independent evaluation by av-test.org game Kaspersky's new security suite a rating of "excellent."

The Kaspersky Internet Security Suite is available now for $79.95, which includes the anti-virus program. The anti-virus program is available a la carte for $59.95.
