Sony just announced retail sales swells during the holiday buying season, 2009.

According to Sony, more than 3.8 million PlayStation3 (PS3) systems sold from "Black Friday" (American Thanksgiving weekend) through Christmas, a 76 per cent increase in hardware sales compared to the same period in the previous year, when the PS3 was widely regarded as an overpriced console underwhelmed by decent and/or exclusive games.

With a new, streamlined form factor, a solid line up of fresh and wildy popular games, and an aggressive new North American price point of $300 set on September 1, 2009, 3.8 million units sold is the highest record sales for PS3 hardware for a holiday period.
