When Alienware was bought up by Dell and VoodooPC by HP, it looked for all the world like custom PC shops had become a thing of the past, mere brands that pretended at customizable hardcore gamer systems with catchy logos on production line computers.
But that's all changed with the launch of Origin, a Miami-based custom gaming PC manufacturer co-founded by former Alienware VP, Kevin Wasielewski.
"Many boutique computer makers have lost their way," said Wasielewski, now CEO of Origin PC. "Origin is the return of the real gaming PC giving gamers exactly what they want with the most customizable, best performing, hand painted and hand built gaming PCs available."
Starting at $1,700 USD, Origin desktop PCs boast features such as overclocked Intel or AMD processors, Dual or Tri NVIDIA or ATI video cards, Dual or Triple Channel DDR3 2000MHz RAM, Dual-layer Blu-ray disc burner and the option to use any desktop chassis on the market and have it custom painted.
Origin is bringing in the expert airbrushing talents of Killer Paint, best known for their custom paint jobs in the automotive industry and innovative True Fire(r) effect. Killer Paint will airbrush each chassis by hand with standard colors, metallic colors, or artistic designs. Buyers can also send in their own design or work with a design specialist who will build a system that will encompass the individuality and personal flair of its owner.
Beyond performance and design, Origin reports to place strong focus on build quality, system testing and service, the fundamental mandates of custom PC shops often left by the wayside in the transition from respected specialty shop to corporate entity.
Origin reports that every system is put through an intensive three day burn-in testing process that includes game benchmarking and installing all the latest drivers, to ensure stable gameplay and performance.
Origin also appears serious about its commitment to gamers over the long haul as it adds lifetime phone/online support along with lifetime labor provided by a personalized team of experts to its list of "extras." Most computers come with one-year support, tops.
To cap it off, Origin PCs are endorsed by Johnathan "Fatal1ty" Wendel, the world's leading professional gamer. "I have known the founders of Origin for several years and have selected them as my premier gaming PC partner," said Wendel "With Origin, I want to focus on what true, hardcore gamers and enthusiasts want from their gaming PC; high-performance, personal customization, and a PC that delivers the best gaming experience in collaboration with my licensed partners."
Origin currently lists the GENESIS Custom Gaming Desktop and the EON18 Custom Gaming Notebook as its flagship products.
