The world's biggest online game, World of Warcraft, is getting bigger yet as its developer, Blizzard Entertainment, has revealed a new expansion pack for the massively popular massively-multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG).
Revealed at the recent BlizzCon expo, the new add-on, dubbed Cataclysm, will add a number of new features to the game, including a pair of new playable races: Goblins and the Worgen.
The expansion will also allow players a new level cap of 85, earning new abilities and develop new talents along the way. New flying mounts, meanwhile, will let them experience the game from on high and explore otherwise out-of-reach places.
According to Blizzard, the world-shaking plot line of Cataclysm - "an ancient evil has been lying dormant within Deepholm," who knew? - will also re-render some classic areas in the game, with zones on the original continents of Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdom circa 2004 all ripped asunder and permanently deformed, making the same-old worth exploring anew.
"In addition to revitalizing some of the most familiar and iconic areas of the game world," explained Blizzard CEO, Mike Morhaime, "this third World of Warcraft expansion will add new features and a large amount of new content for players to explore."
World of Warcraft is the leading MMORPG (by far) with some 12 million active (and subscribing) players engaging in the same online fantasy role-play simultaneously by the thousands.
Cataclysm is slated for release next year.
