Plants vs. Zombies shuffles into stores, iTunes
After three months of availability exclusively as an online download, PopCap Games' incredibly addictive, best selling, and embarrassingly adorable strategy game, Plants vs Zombies, is now available in retail stores across North America.
PopCap Games also announced that the family-friendly game, which is the fastest selling title in the company's history, would be coming to at least two additional platforms.
Currently available as a PC and Mac game only, Plants vs. Zombies will soon move to both iPhone and Xbox Live Arcade (XBLA). The iPhone version is expected before the end of the year while the XBLA edition does not yet have an official release date.
"Plants vs Zombies sold more briskly in its first 90 days of online availability than any previous game we've published," boasted said PopCap's marketing VP, Ben Rotholtz, noting that Plants now accounts for nine of the ten biggest-grossing single sales days in PopCap's ten-year history. The feat is all the more remarkable considering PopCap's ubiquitous Bejeweled and Zuma franchises have sold more than 40 million units between them.
Plants vs Zombies is a strategy game where players defend their homes from slow-walking waves of tenacious zombies with a wide array of weaponized plants, including sunflowers, pea shooters, and cherry bombs.
A free trial download is available at
popcap.com while the full version is available online and now in stores for US$19.95.
Though iPhone pricing was not revealed, other PopCap titles available on the iTunes Store range from $2.99 to $4.99, tops.
