Following the announcement of Bookworm Adventures 2, PopCap Games just announced that another of its popular games is getting a sequel, Zuma.

Zuma's Revenge! will be released next month for both PC and Mac for US$19.95. The new title will have big shoes to fill as the original Zuma has sold over 17 million copies worldwide on multiple platforms. PopCap will attempt to make the sequel just as successful as the original ball-blasting game by featuring new game mechanics, modes, power-ups, and other ubiquitous buff-up stuff.

"The original Zuma has millions of fans around the world," explained PopCap creative director, Jason Kapalka. "So there was a lot of pressure when doing the sequel to really deliver something they’d love, without wrecking the classic Zuma gameplay."

To ensure that the new game is up to snuff, PopCap enlisted the help of Rick Fortin, the high-score record holder for the original game with a mind-boggling 3,384,820 and 34 live to spare. Suffice it to say, that's a really, really high score.

"PopCap has actually improved the game in every respect," Fortin asserted. "I have to say that the wait was well worth it for this game. It’s all that I expected and much more."

Founded in 2000, PopCap currently boasts a worldwide staff of over 230 people in Canada, the US, Ireland, and China. Its games have been downloaded more than 1 billion times by consumers worldwide. PopCap's most familiar title is Bejeweled, which has sold more than 25 million units across all platforms.
