Fox has been rustling through the archives again, this time to put together a well-rounded box set of the works of the late, great, Paul Newman, consummate actor, philanthropist and all around really-cool guy.

On September 22, 2009, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will release The Paul Newman Tribute Collection, which marks the fortieth anniversary of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, arguably Newman's most famous film.

The collection will come packed with 13 films spanning Newman's 50 year career - that's 27 hours of Newman goodness - plus a 136 page soft-bound book featuring photographs of the Hollywood icon at work on various film sets, plus movie excepts and personal quotes.

Four of the 13 films will be available as 2-discs special editions, including The Hustler Collector’s Edition (sadly, does not include the sequel, The Color of Money), Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid Collector’s Edition, The Towering Inferno Special Edition, and The Verdict Collector’s Edition, for a total of 17 discs in one box.

Other collected films include The Long, Hot Summer; Rally ‘Round the Flag, Boys!; From the Terrace; Exodus; Hemingway’s Adventures of a Young Man; What a Way to Go!; Hombre; Buffalo Bill and the Indians Or Sitting Bull’s History Lesson; and Quintet.

The Paul Newman Tribute Collection will retail for US$89.98 US and C$119.98. Pre-orders for the September 22 release will be available as of August 26.

Strangely, though ripe for such an anthology, The Paul Newman Tribute Collection will not be available on Blu-ray.
