Microsoft just released a big, fat, system-wide upgrade for Xbox 360, available to connected users everywhere.

The Xbox 360 Spring (albeit waning-days-of-) Upgrade introduces some 125 new features and enhancements, some of which are touted as "revolutionary," though it's hard to figure out which ones they mean, unless it’s the fast-forward and rewind function on downloaded videos (yeah man! fast-forward and rewind, woohoo!), downloading content and playing games at the same time (a new process known as "multi-tasking" for those who just warped in from 1989), a music playback screen that now shows the artist, song title and time remaining on the song (holy cow! How do they fit the guy with the stop watch inside that little box?!), or maybe just the total USB keyboard support (not just partial support for you, fine Xbox 360 owner, but utterly total. No, no, no, thank you.).

In fairness, considering the newness of Bill's 'box o' Buffness, most any Xbox 360 feature can be considered "revolutionary" because it's really not been done before; not in the spherical box context, anyway. But, considering how much you pay for an Xbox 360, the 125 new things might be better described as "expected fixes to bugs, glitches and glaring user interface design oversights."

At any rate, the free update is being digitally distributed over Xbox Live to all members (Xbox Live Silver and Gold), no disc or hard drive required. Downloading usually takes less than a minute and provides instant access to all the features, which are listed in entirety at www.xbox.com.

Amaze your friends with a "revolutionary" Repeat / Shuffle icon that now operates as a toggle button.
