Capcom used the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) to confirm that an upcoming installment of the long-running, survival-horror smash Resident Evil will be made exclusively for the Nintendo Wii.

Not to be confused with Resident Evil 5, already known to be in production for the next-generation PlayStation, the PS3, and the Xbox 360, Capcom maintains that the Wii RE will be a new--or at least different--game that takes advantage of the Wii's unique interface (that wireless, motion-sensitive remote controller thingy), which holds the promise of zombie bashing in all sorts of fresh, interesting and interactive ways.

No release date was announced for the Wii game, though Resident Evil 5 is officially expected to arrive for PS3 and X360 in early 2007, which seems a likely target date for the exclusively different Wii version too.
