The big question that this romantic comedy was supposed to have answered is whether Katherine Heigl, best known as a doctor who gets a little too involved with her patients on TV's Grey's Anatomy, has the charisma and talent to headline and carry a movie.

The answer is a cautious yes.

A modest critical and financial success, this story about a woman who, after dozens of appearances as a bridesmaid, finally decides to take a stand and fight for the opportunity to become the queen cheese, proves that Heigl can be a believable romantic lead.

But we already knew that, based on her previous turns as a sweetheart in films like Knocked Up and The Ringer. Yes, 27 Dresses relies on Heigl's charm more than her previous films, which were more about the bungling antics of her male co-stars, but it's essentially just a one-joke romcom that doesn't task her to show much range outside of being a modern, slightly flawed, but nonetheless delightful young woman. It's difficult to tell how much of her character is acting and how much of it is simply Heigl playing her obviously affable self.

So yes, she can carry a movie. However, the jury is still out on whether she can carry anything much more than a fluffy farce.

The Blu-ray and DVD editions are pretty much identical, save the former's superior audio and visual fidelity. There's not much in the way of supplementary material on either, save a few obligatory behind-the-camera mini-documentaries and four deleted scenes.

Saw it on blu-ray via PS3 @ all it's HDMI glory!... why?, the wife thought it would be nice to see all the dresses in it's uncompressed, high digital, high defined glory... I personally didn't care if this movie was on a CAM/RIPPED version, it was funny, smart and very SAD that there's people out there infatuated with weddings the way this chick was... sheesh...
