Shrek the Third
Shrek the Third will always hold a special place for my family in that it was the first movie my daughter -- two years old at the time -- ever watched in a theatre. It was a disastrous experience that saw her spend half the movie running up, down, and between the aisles (it was made bearable only by the fact that we had the screening room to ourselves).
Needless to say, my first born kept me from paying much attention to the film the first time I saw it. However, having now watched Shrek the Third at home I realize that I didn't miss much. The jokes are mostly retreads -- Puss in Boots looking unnaturally cute, Donkey getting dissed -- with the only genuine humour coming in the form of the Princess Posse; a group of fairy tale girls who kick ass while scoring big laughs.
The DVD has all sorts of stuff that will keep kids occupied well past the credits, including interactive games and a Donkey dancing primer. But those who opt for the HD DVD will get some truly special next-gen features, including customizable character menu skins, a trivia track, a digital colouring book, and a picture-in-picture extra that shows technical goofs, pitches for deleted scenes, and more, all while the movie plays.
